Problem
Velocity was approached with a concept to design a campaign for a company wanting to make digital camera usage easier for hotel and resort guests around the world. Guests would be able to upload images from the memory cards of their digital cameras onto computers at resorts or hotels to a secure IBM network, allowing them to delete images from their cameras. Guests would avoid having to purchase multiple memory cards or be forced to delete precious memories from their cameras when they ran out of memory.
This concept posed many challenges. Most resorts have slow dial up connections that do not allow the transfer of large files due to the speed of the networks. Guests also pay for the time they use the computers, making transfers of large files over a slow connection expensive. A tough problem indeed.
Solution
We began by creating a name for the company, calling it Pixelalbum. Digital photos are made up of millions of tiny pixels. We felt this name was memorable and also appropriate because it communicated the nature of computers and digital cameras.
We designed the logo as a square which represents the pixel. It is the basic shape and building block of the images created with digital cameras. It is also the building block we would design Pixelalbum’s campaign around.
We chose to design the campaign in bright, full colour because that is how people and cameras see the world. We also built the campaign around hundreds of tiny images that from a distance appear to be pixels, but upon closer investigation are tiny, unique images.

Results
The next and most crucial challenge was to build the mechanism that would make the concept tick. We developed a custom software program that uploads images from a memory card onto a computer at a resort within 10 minutes, allowing the guest to delete images from their memory card and walk away.
While away, the computer slowly uploads each image securely onto an IBM network. The program provides the guest with a password immediately after the images are pulled from the card so the traveller can safely download images from the pixelalbum.net website upon returning home.
